Cayenne pepper
Cayenne pepper is a hot red pepper obtained from dried and ground red peppers of the species Capsicum annuum. Its name comes from the town of Cayenne in French Guiana, where it originated. Cayenne pepper has a heat strength of 30,000 to 50,000 SHU. Scoville Heat Unit /SHU/ is a unit of measure for measuring the hot potential of hot peppers and more specifically of the capsaicin they contain.
Cayenne pepper powder is a versatile spice suitable for any dish that calls for hot pepper, both during cooking and for sprinkling on finished dishes. Pairs well with all types of meats, seafood, cheeses, eggs, vegetable dishes, barbecue sauces, stews, and more. Since it is very hot, it should be dosed carefully. When cooking with cayenne pepper, avoid touching your face and especially your eyes. Keep away from children.
Store cayenne pepper in a dark container away from light, heat and moisture to preserve its flavor and aroma.
