100 g Thyme Thymus vulgaris is a perennial herbaceous plant of the family Ustotsvetni, widespread in the countries of Southern Europe. It is found in dry, grassy and stony places from the lowlands to the high mountain belt. In Bulgaria it is cultivated in the warmer regions of the country.
Thyme is widely used both in cooking and as a medicinal herb. It is used both fresh and dried. It has a strong aroma that is preserved during drying. At the end of their preparation, a pinch of 4 portions is added to the dishes.
Thyme is a traditional spice for bean soup, vegetable soups, fish dishes, beef, game, liver pate, offal and more. Combines well with onions, black and red pepper, bay leaf, juniper, basil. Thyme infusion is prepared with vinegar to acidify salads.
In medicine, thyme is used as an expectorant, which stimulates the secretion of airways and bile. It has bactericidal and antimicrobial action. Thyme tea is taken for stomach pain and indigestion, inflammation of the oral cavity. It is also applied externally as a disinfectant, for compresses, aromatization of baths, etc.
