The physiological functions of magnesium are diverse: it is a structural component of a large number of enzymes (approximately 300). It belongs to the catalysts that increase the activity of enzymes and enhance their action with the direct participation of magnesium ions in the process of biosynthesis. They are necessary for the activation of amino acids and maintaining the integrity of ribosomes.

Marine magnesium contains magnesium hydroxide extracted from seawater. Seawater contains approximately 3.5% soluble salts, of which about 0.5% is soluble magnesium. The precipitated magnesium hydroxide is washed repeatedly with fresh water and dried to a fine powder. Approximately 500 tons of seawater are required to produce 1 ton of high quality magnesium hydroxide.
