Dandelion roots, in addition to stimulating metabolism, also work positively to remove toxins and poisons from the kidneys and liver. The herb also acts as a mild laxative and improves appetite and digestion. It is useful for eczema, skin problems, abscesses and is believed to prevent age spots and have a beneficial effect on proliferative processes in the mammary glands.

Taraxin is one of the main constituents (which gives it its bitterness) to which dandelion owes its effect. Taraxin also favors the functions of the excretory system, especially the excretion of urine and the functioning of the urinary tract. Other active substances are sterols, flavoids, (rutin, luteolin and quercetol), terpenes, as well as potassium in large quantities (30% of the mineral composition of the plant). The root is particularly rich in inulin.
