Why fat is essential?

Some of the fats in the diet, such as saturated ones, should be strictly limited as they pose health risks. Others, such as polyunsaturated fatty acids Omega 3 and Omega 6, are essential for good health. These important nutrients influence skin and hair health, support the cardiovascular system, affect the hormonal balance, and some of them participate in the development of the baby's brain and nervous system and allow brain cells to function and communicate. The World Health Organization recommends a minimum intake of Omega 3 fatty acids from 0.5 to 2% of daily energy intake.

Essential Fat Sources
Foods of plant origin, such as seeds and nuts, provide us with the sources of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids - Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) and linoleic acid (LA). These fatty acids can not be produced by the body and need to be delivered through the food. The body then transforms them into essential fatty acids ("super fat"): gamma linolenic acid (GLA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Fish oil contains EPA and DHA that fish have produced from the algae they eat. However, fish oil is not environmentally friendly, and seas are constantly polluted.
