Apple Fibers 80g (Pectin Powder) is recommended for people who want to lead a healthy lifestyle and care for proper nutrition.
Pectin is a structural polysaccharide contained in the primary cell wall of the terrestrial plants. It was first isolated and described in 1825. By Henri Braconnot. It is commercially available as a white to light brown powder, mostly extracted from citrus fruits. Used as a thickener in the food industry, in the production of marmalade and jam. It is also used as a stabilizer and source of fiber in stuffing, candy, fruit juice and milk.
Pectin is a natural part of human food but does not have a particular nutritional value. The daily intake of pectin from fruits and vegetables is about 5 g when consuming 500 g of food of plant origin.
Pectin passes through the small intestine almost without chemical changes. This makes it one of the most efficient ballast substances.
What is pectin useful for?
Pectin consumption has been found to lower blood cholesterol levels. This is due to the increased viscosity of the intestinal contents, which in turn leads to its association with cholesterol and bile acids and reduced cholesterol absorption. In the colon, microorganisms metabolize pectin and release short-chain fatty acids, which are prebiotics and have an extremely beneficial effect on human health.
Pectin can be used in the prevention of atherosclerosis, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, the formation of gallstones.
Pectin is an extremely valuable substance for "transporting" antitumor preparations directly to the affected tissues, which significantly prevents the formation of metastases. There is evidence that it significantly improves prognosis for prostate cancer - a disease that is the first place in men. A beneficial effect of pectin is also observed with the use of antibiotics - by prolonging their action and limiting the side effects.
Pectin improves the function of the colon. The pectin fermentation increases the microbial cell mass in the non-digested fecal residues, which increases their degradation. The ability of pectin to bind water leads to dilution of the contents of the colon and, as a result, the possibility of reducing the harmful effects of its constituents.
The viscous properties of pectin are the cause of slowing down digestion and emptying the stomach. This leads to an increase in satiety and may reduce dietary intake.
